Afghanistan have climbed to seventh place in the latest ICC men’s One-Day International rankings, moving ahead of England after a strong run of recent victories.
The latest standings give Afghanistan 94 rating points, one ahead of England on 93. Sri Lanka remain narrowly ahead of Afghanistan with 95 points.
Afghanistan’s rise follows an impressive run of seven consecutive ODI victories.
That winning streak includes Afghanistan’s recent tri-series matches against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, where the national side won all of its games.
England, meanwhile, have lost their last two matches in the ongoing tri-series in Pakistan involving the hosts and Sri Lanka. In one of those defeats, England were unable to defend a total of 430 against Sri Lanka.
India currently lead the ODI rankings with 115 rating points, followed by New Zealand with 109.
Afghanistan’s seventh-place position now puts them ahead of several ICC Full Member nations, including England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Ireland.
