The United Nations has called for de-escalation between Afghanistan and Pakistan following reported Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Helmand provinces.
UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said continued tensions are putting civilian lives at risk and stressed the need to prevent further escalation.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, UNAMA, said at least 10 civilians were killed and nine others wounded in the latest strikes in Kunar and Helmand. Children were reportedly among the casualties.
Dujarric emphasized the protection of civilians and called for differences between Afghanistan and Pakistan to be addressed through dialogue and diplomatic channels.
According to UN figures, UNAMA has recorded more than 1,100 civilian casualties linked to Pakistani strikes in Afghanistan since the beginning of 2026.
Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have faced heightened tensions in recent months amid security incidents and military activity affecting both sides of the border.
