White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced on Tuesday, April 23, that Afghan migrants who received temporary protection under President Biden’s administration will soon see those protections end.

She stated that asylum cases for Afghans who entered the U.S. will be reviewed individually by the courts.

Leavitt also noted that former President Donald Trump aims to overhaul and enforce a more structured and legal immigration process.

Earlier, Fox News reported that deporting Afghan migrants—particularly Christians—could put hundreds at risk of Taliban persecution.

In response, religious leaders in the U.S. have urged Trump to halt deportations until a clear policy solution for Afghan refugees is in place.

The Department of Homeland Security has already revoked temporary protection for nearly 11,000 Afghan migrants, leaving them vulnerable to removal.
