Afghanistan’s tri-color national flag (black, red, and green) was approved in 1928 during King Amanullah Khan’s reign by a grand assembly.

Despite changes under various regimes, it was reinstated as the national flag during President Hamid Karzai’s tenure. The Taliban strongly oppose this flag, but no resolution has been found yet.

Under the republic, every 28th of July, the tri-color flag was displayed as a national symbol in Kabul and other cities, celebrated with grand ceremonies.
